a word from the unwise...

One thing that bothers me so much today is this idea that celebrities are experts and inspirational geniuses (particularly with all things political), and that people actually listen to them. The list just continues to grow of the many actors I don't much care to see on screen anymore. So most recently, during his grand acceptance speech at the Oscars, Sean Penn had this to say:

“I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support. We’ve got to have equal rights.”

Thank you Mr. Penn, but you can go ahead and keep thinking. I anticipate the day when my grandchildren will hear stories about what we had to go through to protect our families and fight for what we believe in.

  1. Isnt amazing when a church supports a political decision... the church gets criticized and looked down upon. BUT when an actor or actress expresses their opinion and puts money towards the cause... everyone cheers them on! We care more about an actor or actresses opinion, more than we care about our church leaders. Something seems backwards here.

  2. Foundational principles from one of our founding fathers, James Madison:

'the prescription in favor of liberty, ought to be levelled against that quater where the greatest danger lies, namely, that which possesses the highest prerogative of power: this isn't found in either the executive or legislative branches of gov't, but in the body of the people operating in the majority against the minority'

Their wisdom was and continues to be applicable and relevant over centuries, and not short-sighted cultural disturbances. Were they inspired by a greater power, I certainly believe so.

  3. Ah, gotta *love* Sean Pean. Such a great advocate of the freedom to express opinion - just as long as the opinion being expressed is the same as his.
