Ward Campout 2011

I used to love going on ward campouts. We would go every year when I was a kid. My dad and I would sneak out at night and scare people walking to the outhouse or we'd zip-tie people's tents shut once they'd fallen asleep.

Well, as I got older I attended ward campouts less and less because life got so busy. For the last 10 years or so over the summer I've either been at scout camp, in argentina, or in china. This was the first year since I was a kid that we could go!

So we packed up some food, a tent, sleeping bags etc and headed to Sharon Vermont, the birthplace of the Prophet Joseph Smith (click here to learn more) It was totally car camping, but we didn't care. The grounds were beautiful! It had a big, grassy field with hills, trees all over, a pond for swimming, cabins or tent sites and showers.

We weren't sure how Atticus would do- he's only 4 months. But he was a champ! He was freezing to death the first night because he was basically just laying on a towel with nothing over him. Jodi ended up snuggling with him in her bag. The second night we put him in a deluxe baby car seat blanket fest and he slept through the night for the first time! Woohoo! 9 hours from 10:30pm-7:30am.

We headed over to the White River about a quarter mile north of the Vermont Law School and had a great day swimming. It's the perfect river for it. The water isn't cold, it's shallow and slow moving at the edge and drops off to swift current again. It has a great rope swing out of a tree too. It was great. Jodi was in heaven, she said it's the swimming hole she's been waiting for all year. Atticus slept happily on the shore the whole time!

We ate great food, played guitar, told my favorite scary poem and had a lot of fun with everybody. I can't wait to do it again next year.

And did Atticus enjoy himself? you watch this video and be the judge.
By the way, lately he rules our house with an iron fist sitting upon his icy blue throne.

  1. That baby keeps getting cuter. How?
It's too bad that your first ward campout in Vermont was after we moved away. We would have had a great time.

  3. He really is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen! You guys should meet up with my sister and brother in law. He goes to Dartmouth Med school. I just thought of it because she just posted about their ward campout at the same place.
